History and Culture: Exhibition “The Passion of Christ” opens at the Andrey Rublev Museum in Moscow

On January 27, 2023, the exhibition The Passion of Christ opens at the Andrey Rublev Museum (Moscow). It is dedicated to the last days of Christ’s earthly life, when he was betrayed by one of his disciples, according to the Gospel. The events of Holy Week – the taking of Christ into custody, the trial, the flagellation and abuse of the Savior, the Crucifixion – are reflected in icons, works of decorative and applied art, sculpture, book graphics, and painting.

The National Endowment for the Humanities is awarding the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore a $265,000 grant to digitize, catalog and distribute 113 medieval Flemish manuscripts, including a collection of prayer books adorned with gold.

The Pavlovsk Museum-Reserve presents the exhibition “A Gift from the King of France”. The exposition showcases unique works produced at the celebrated Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory. On display are gifts of French monarchs, which were given to the first owners of Pavlovsk. The practice of giving porcelain gifts was widespread in the 18th century.

On September 3, 2018 after the completion of the large-scale restoration work, the Peterhof State Museum Reserve opened the Church Pavilion of the Grand Menshikov Palace in Oranienbaum. The public now has a chance to visit the summer church, which keeps the restored carved gilded iconostasis and the winter church, which houses the museum exposition dedicated to the three century-long history of the palace church and its owners. The restoration works were launched in 2009.
