June 9, 2017 marks the 345th anniversary of the birth of the first Russian emperor Peter I. There is an extensive collection on The House of Romanov. Zemsky Sobor (Assembly of the Land) of 1613, one section of which is dedicated to a reformer of Russia and a founder of St. Petersburg, on the Presidential Library website.

217 years ago, on August 7 (July 26), 1803, the sloops Nadezhda and Neva hoisted sails and launched the first Russian circumnavigation of the Earth led by Ivan Fedorovich Krusenstern. They left Kronstadt to meet the discoveries. Later, there were other, no less significant round-the-world voyages.

115 years ago, in the spring of 1906, the most significant event in the social and political life of the Russian Empire took place. It was the elections to the State Duma - the first representative legislative body in the history of the state. There were four convocations of the State Duma. Two fist Dumas were dissolved by the imperial government. Despite everything, this institution worked until the fall of the monarchy.

A monument to the founder of the city, Emperor Peter I, was unveiled 238 years ago, on August 18, 1782, on the Senate Square of St. Petersburg. Later, thanks to the famous poem by Alexander Pushkin, the sculpture was named "The Bronze Horseman", although it was actually made of bronze.

The event was organized jointly with the Ryazan Regional Center of the Presidential Library. The partners were the Gorky Ryazan Regional Universal Scientific Library and the Yesenin State Museum-Reserve.

A major event in the social and political life of the Russian Empire, the Manifesto On the Establishment of the State Duma in Russia, signed by Emperor Nicholas II, took place on August 6 (19 - according to the new style). July 17, 2020 marks 102 years since the death of the last Russian emperor Nicholas II, his family and close associates. They were shot in Yekaterinburg in the basement of the Ipatiev House, the name of which coincides in some ominous fate with the name of the monastery in Kostroma, where the first of the House of Romanov, Mikhail Feodorovich, received news of his election to the throne.

The event was timed to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Russian Emperor and the 100th anniversary of the State Archival Service of Russia and was organized on the eve of the All-Russian Scientific Conference "The Eras of “Great Reforms": History and Documentary Heritage" dedicated to the Tsar-Reformer. The conference will be held in the Presidential Library on 25 May.

On March 15 (old style - March 2), 1917, a significant event took place that rightfully ranks among the most important events in the history of Russia in the 20th century - Emperor Nicholas II abdicated the throne for himself and his young son Alexei. The following day, his younger brother Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich also refused to assume supreme power. This marked the end of more than three centuries of rule by the House of Romanov and the end of the history of monarchy in Russia.
