Society and Culture: “Gorky Park: Factory of Happy People” display, marking 90th anniversary of Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure, underway in Moscow

On August 16, 2018 the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and Gorky Park are presenting the exhibition “Gorky Park: Factory of Happy People” timed to coincide with 90th foundation anniversary of Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure. Director of Gorky Park - Betty Glun - used to recall, that it was the British writer and publicist Herbert Wells, who gave such a name to the park as he visited Moscow in 1934. Later on it was shortened to “Happiness Factory” and became one of the unofficial names of the park.

The Russian State Library Printed Music and Sound Recordings Department (Moscow) has opened the exhibition “What a beautiful city you are!”, timed to coincide with the Moscow City Day celebrations (this year scheduled for September 8). On display is a wide variety of printed music of late 19th — early 21st cc, which show the attitude of Moscow residents to their native city, and represent the festive mood of “joyful Moscow”.

IT and Museums: Ancient artifacts and sculptures of the Uffizi Gallery go online

As a result of a collaboration between Indiana University (Indiana, the USA) and the Uffizi Gallery (Florence, Italy), it's now possible to view some of the world's most admired ancient artifacts and sculptures in 3D without traveling overseas. A newly launched website currently contains over 300 digitized sculptures and fragments from the collection.

On August 16, 2018 the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve is mounting a new exhibition “Finift. Marking the centenary of Rostov Finift Factory. The exhibition presents exhibits from Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve collections and Rostov Finift Factory Museum collections — about 400 pieces of decorative, applied, and jewelry art. The exhibition will be launched as part of “Refinement” (Preobrazheniye) festival of arts.

History of Moscow: “Finds in my street” display unveils unique historical pieces discovered by archaeologists in streets of Moscow

From August 16 to October 17, 2018 the Museum of Moscow is running the exhibition “Finds in my street”. Museum halls will again display unique historical items, which  have been discovered by archaeologists in the streets of Moscow since early 2018. “Mysteries of underground Moscow” – the display of archaeological finds in 2017 - won “City exhibitions” nomination at Moscow Urban Forum 2018 in July.
