The Presidential Library cinema club - about the fate of the Tsar Liberator Alexander II

25 April 2018

April 25, 2018 at 16:00 the Presidential Library cinema club will host a creative meeting with the documentary director, Honored Artist of Russia Konstantin Artyukhov. He will present the film "Alexander II" (1991), after which the viewing and discussion of the film will take place.

The fate of Alexander II is one of the tragic pages in the history of Russia. The Emperor, who dared to abolish serfdom and other reforms, was mortally wounded in the very center of St. Petersburg, on the embankment of the Catherine Canal. He managed to say only: "It's cold, it’s cold ... Let us go to the palace. It is better to die there ... ". He died in his office in the Winter Palace from the loss of blood.

Artyukhov showed the scale of state reforms conducted by Alexander II in his film. He could do even more for the development of the country, but the fate was uncharitable to him ...

Director and scriptwriter, one of the leading documentalists of the country, Konstantin Artyukhov graduated from the theatrical production, and then the directing department of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (Theater Institute on Mokhovaya). Since 1963 he worked as a director on Leningrad television, since 1968 - at the studio "Lentelefilm", then at the film studio "Lennauchfilm". He created more than 80 films, mainly about the history and culture of Russia.
