Mysterious atmosphere of white nights displayed at the Presidential Library

Albert Sytin's art exhibition “White Nights in Leningrad” is underway at the Presidential Library from May 21 to June 17. The series, consisting of 25 paintings, was created in the period from 1976 to 2016 and is exhibited for the first time on the eve of the anniversary of the master - in July 2019 he turns 80 years old.

White Nights is the artist’s first recollection of Leningrad, which occupy an important place in his work. In 1956, Albert Sytin entered the Leningrad Naval Engineering School in Pushkin. He became a painter precisely in the vicinity of the Catherine Park. He himself says: “The semi-darkness of the transparent city, the blurred contours of city buildings and streets, the twilight silence of the lakes and parks of Pushkin, where the school is located - our house for five whole years, the riot of blossoming bird cherry and lilac at the beginning of white park nights - remained mystery for us. The white night asks for silence, concentration, tenderness in the soul”.

The artworks of Albert Anatolyevich, made in the technique of watercolor, are characterized by a sincere and pure manner of expressing love for the city of Pushkin and Leningrad - St. Petersburg. In his paintings, the atmosphere and mood of parks, streets and canals, bridges and embankments are vividly expressed, and recognizable places are endowed with fantastical and fabulous motifs.

Albert Anatolyevich Sytin was born in 1939 in the city of Volsk in Saratov Region. In 1956 he entered the Leningrad Naval Engineering School in the city of Pushkin. After graduation in 1961, he became a mechanical engineer of nuclear power plants of a nuclear submarine in “Military Mechanical Engineer of steam power plants of surface ships” discipline. In 1975 he graduated from the Naval Academy in Leningrad, was engaged in research and teaching activities on the creation and development of new nuclear deep-water stations and on the training of their crews. Albert Sytin from childhood was fond of visual arts. In 1976 he was admitted to the Union of Artists of the USSR. More than 15 of his solo exhibitions were held. Some works were acquired by the Ministry of Culture and museums of St. Petersburg. He is a member of the Peter Academy of Sciences and Arts.
