Events of the 23rd session of the UNWTO General Assembly to be held at the Presidential Library

9–13 September 2019

The Presidential Library will become one of the venues of the UNWTO General Assembly. The largest event for the global tourism industry will be held in St. Petersburg from September 9-13, 2019. Assembly events will be also held at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center and the Taurida Palace.

The event is organized by the Federal Tourism Agency of the Russian Federation together with the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg with the support of the Roscongress Foundation.

More than 1,500 delegates from 158 countries will bring together to discuss the solution of global challenges facing the tourism sector. The agenda includes working sessions and meetings dedicated to the work of the UNWTO, including the reform of the organization and its current financial situation. An important part of the discussions will be devoted to the adoption of the UNWTO Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics, as well as the approval of the themes of World Tourism Day 2020 and the decision on the host country for 2021.

The 41st plenary meeting will be held in the Presidential Library on September 9, 2019 on the first day of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization.

The plenary meeting is the most important annual event of the UNWTO Affiliate Members and creates the ideal environment for discussing the annual program of work, expressing opinions and getting information about what the UNWTO and the Department of Affiliate Members are doing in new and existing areas of work.

The Forum on Medical and Health Tourism will take place in the Taurida Palace on September 10.

September 11 will be the day of the official opening of the 23rd session of the UNWTO General Assembly. The ceremony will be held at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Center.

UNWTO session delegates will focus on two topics on the global tourism agenda on September 12. A report on ongoing activities and the first results in the field of education and employment in tourism will be made by the UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. The afternoon will be dedicated to the Summit on Innovation and Sustainable Development in Tourism. The dates and venue of the 24th session of the General Assembly will be also determined and announced on September 12.

The closing event of the General Assembly, 111st session of the Executive Council, will be held on September 13 at the Presidential Library.
