Marking the Russian Cinema Day. The Presidential Library provides online broadcasting of films and video lectures
The Presidential Library’s portal from Monday to Friday in Live broadcasts section provides broadcasting of films, video lectures and tours prepared by the Presidential Library, as well as by leading film studios of the country.
In accordance with the broadcast program, on August 27, the Russian Cinema Day, users will be able to watch fragments of a unique newsreel included in the documentary by Lev Kulidzhanov: “XX century. The collapse of Europe”. On the same day, the portal will provide broadcasting of a documentary by the Presidential Library’s specialists "A novel with history: Russia of the 20th century through the eyes of Yulian Semyonov", which tells about an exhibition dedicated to his life and career. The exhibition features photographs, manuscripts, letters, documents, personal belongings of the writer and screenwriter unknown to the general public.
People's Artist of Russia Nikolai Burov will tell about literature and theater, about the images and characters of literary heroes from the point of view of an actor in his video lecture.
The audience will also be offered a silent feature short film "Boyarin Orsha", filmed in 1909 by director Peter Chardynin based on the poem of the same name by Mikhail Lermontov. The film shows scenes from the time of Ivan the Terrible, whose 490th birthday will be celebrated on August 25, 2020. One can learn about the era and personality of the first crowned Russian tsar, as well as about one of the largest monuments of historical literature of the 16th century - the Book of Degrees, from the video lecture by Vyacheslav Shaposhnik, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Faculty of History of St. Petersburg State University.
"The USSR and International Relations in Europe on the Eve and at the Beginning of World War II" is the topic of another video lecture, read by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of History of Modern and Contemporary Times at the Institute of History of St. Petersburg State University Vladimir Baryshnikov. A film from the cycle "On the Way to the Great Victory" from the collection of documentaries of the Russian Historical Channel "Kursk Bulge: Our Summer" will tell about the preparation and course of Operation Citadel.
Also, without leaving home, users will be able to visit the video lecture of the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Institute of History of St. Petersburg State University Alexander Puchenkov "Civil War in Russia: White and Red" and, thanks to a video prepared by library’s specialists learn about the collection "Russian people". This collection of the Presidential Library is one of the four basic collections and includes thousands of digital copies of archival materials, abstracts, monographs, full texts of dissertations, periodicals and audiovisual documents where the Russian people appear as a source of power, as a population, as an ethnic group, as society as the driving force of history.
Multimedia project “'Word - Meaning. Culture = Cultura“. Part 1-2. "Phraseologisms"", prepared by Presidential Library’s specialists, will be focused on the history of the alphabet and writing. Particular attention is paid to the disclosure of the meaning and history of the emergence of such phraseological units as "to reach the handle", "to beat the thumbs up", "hack to death", "stay with the nose", "make your own contribution" and others.
