The Presidential Library and the Peterburgsky Dnevnik provide a Journey from Leningrad to Petersburg
December 7, 2021 at 16:00 the Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting will host a screening and discussion of a short documentary film Journey from Leningrad to Petersburg, prepared by the editorial staff of the Petersburgsky Dnevnik (Petersburg Diary) newspaper.
The film, which involved director Yevgeny Popov, screenwriter Olga Radvilovich and editor-in-chief of Petersburgsky Dnevnik Kirill Smirnov, has been created for about six months. It tells how thirty years ago the city returned to its historical name.
This film is not only a retrospective meeting with eyewitnesses and participants in historical events, but also a conversation with contemporary Petersburg residents. Thus, the story of the senator, the widow of the only mayor of St. Petersburg Anatoly Sobchak, Lyudmila Narusova, coexists in the film with the works of street art artist Pokras Lampas. The first governor of St. Petersburg Vladimir Yakovlev, the chairman of the Leningrad City Council in 1991 Alexander Belyaev, artist, musician and actor Sergei Bugaev-Africa, designer Leonid Alekseev also took part in the film.
“Our main task was to show the continuity of generations. Despite the fact that the city has not been called Leningrad for thirty years, we still cherish the memory of the siege and feat of Leningrad, which is manifested, among other things, in toponymy. This has been confirmed by every character in our film”, - Kirill Smirnov explains the idea.
The film premiere took place at the end of November at the Aurora cinema. The Presidential Library will host not only its screening, but also a discussion, involving the filmmakers, representatives of the media, cultural workers, educators and other guests of the cinema club.
The cinema club meeting will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in Live broadcasts section, on the institution's YouTube channel, on the Presidential Library's cinema club page on the VKontakte social network, as well as on the resources of the Petersburgsky Dnevnik: on the spbdnevnik.ru and in the group on the Vkontakte social network vk.com/spbdnevnik.
