
The Presidential Library’s video lecture to tell about the outstanding historian Viktor Paneyakh
On February 21, 2022 at 11:00 Moscow time the Presidential Library will host a video lecture dedicated to the historian Viktor Paneyakh (1930–2017) as part of the Knowledge of Russia project. The lecture will continue the series Outstanding Historians of the 19th-20th Centuries, which the Presidential Library is conducting jointly with the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
Viktor Paneyakh is an outstanding historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, a representative of a brilliant generation of employees of the Leningrad branch of the USSR Institute of History, who entered science in the second half of the 1950s. He is the largest specialist in the history of servility in Muscovite Russia, the author of books and articles on this subject. In the last period of his life, the scientist devoted himself to historiography and the history of science, was engaged in research and publication of materials from the high-profile political process "Academic Affairs" (1929-1931), was the organizer and first dean of the Faculty of History of the European University in St. Petersburg.
At the video lecture, Varvara Vovina, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Deputy Director of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences for scientific cooperation, will share her memories of Viktor Paneyakh, who will tell about the contribution of her teacher to the development of Russian historical science.
The daughter of a scientist, head of the Scientific Library Department of the State Museum of the History of Religion, Alla Paneyakh, will present unique photographs from her personal archive to the participants of the video lecture.
The event is free. The meeting will be broadcast live on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live broadcasts section in accordance with the program of live events and on the institution's YouTube channel.
Cooperation between the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences is actively developing. In 2019 a joint series of lectures was held on the territories of Russia as part of the Russian Empire. They are available on the Presidential Library’s portal.

The letter should contain the full name, date and place of birth, passport data (series, number, place of registration), a list of carry-on equipment, contact phone numbers, the name of the media.
We draw the attention of the media representatives that it is necessary to forward applications for accreditation and arrive at the event in advance.
Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.
In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is mandatory for all attendees.
