
The Presidential Library invites for a film journey
The films and video lectures prepared by the Presidential Library, as well as the country's leading film studios, are now broadcast around the clock on the Presidential Library’s portal.
During the week from January 22-29, the Presidential Library offers to make a trip to the regions of Russia. Thus, without leaving home, thanks to the broadcasts on the library’s portal, one has an opportunity to go to Vologda and visit the famous Ferapontov Monastery of the Nativity, founded in the 15th century and painted by an artel of artists led by the famous master Dionysius. In the same place, on the Vologda land, one can learn about the history of the construction of the fortress of Ivan the Terrible, about what function it performed in subsequent centuries and what its territory has now. This is described in the films of the Presidential Library “Saved Frescoes of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin of the Ferapontov Monastery” and “Vologda Fortress of Ivan the Terrible.
The film of the Presidential Library "Saved Frescoes of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral of the Mirozhsky Monastery" offers to visit Pskov land and learn about the most ancient monument of Christian culture. The cathedral was erected at the turn of the 1130s-1140s on the initiative of the Novgorod archbishop Nifont, one of whose main goals was the Christian enlightenment of Northwestern Rus'. The murals of the cathedral, created by Byzantine masters, are distinguished by the highest artistic level and rare safety.
The Yuriev Monastery is a few kilometers from Veliky Novgorod, behind the walls of which the majestic St. George's Cathedral is risen - a monument of ancient Russian architecture of the XII century. Archaeological excavations are being carried out inside this cathedral, which have provided rich material for historians and philologists to study the Old Russian language and writing. The film of the Presidential Library "Graffiti of the St. George's Cathedral of the St. George's Monastery" tells about this.
On the territory of modern Leningrad Region, on the high bank of the Volkhov River, where the great waterway “from the Varangians to the Greeks” ran, Staraya Ladoga arose in the middle of the 7th century. The film "Capital City" presents the point of view of Anatoly Nikolaevich Kirpichnikov, the chief specialist in the study of the territory of Staraya Ladoga, that Staraya Ladoga is the "ancient capital of Northern Rus'." Another film of the Presidential Library “Saved Frescoes of Staraya Ladoga. Churches of the 12th century” is dedicated to the study of a unique painting on the walls of Staraya Ladoga cathedrals.
The film "Borderland", also prepared by the Presidential Library, tells about Bryansk Region. On the territory of the Desna River basin and the Russian Plain, unique archaeological sites have been discovered - the villages of Yudinovo and Khotylevo. These are the only sources for studying the life of the people of Bryansk Region from the Middle Paleolithic to the time of the formation of the Old Russian state. The film also tells about the most ancient Russian cities in this territory: Bryansk, Vshchizh, Starodub, Pochep, Mglin. The main "object" of the film is the Bryansk State Museum of Local Lore.
