The age of Alexander III to be presented at the Presidential Library video lecture

The regular video lecture of the Presidential Library, which will be held March 31, 2015, at 10.00 will tell about the era of the reign of Alexander III.

The lecture is timed to coincide with the 170th anniversary of the emperor, who went down in history as the Russian tsar-peacekeeper.

The reign of Alexander III often seems inexpressive on the background of the great reforms of his father and the whirlpool of revolutionary events that befell his son. Meanwhile, his reign was a time of dynamic development of economy and foreign policy of peace, understanding of current events and past decisions. 

Denis Yanchenko, Ph.D. in history, senior lecturer, Institute of History, SPSU will tell about the role of the emperor’s personality in the context of the history of international relations in Europe at the Presidential Library video lecture.

The focus of the interest of Alexander III included not only his activities as a statesman, but also the collecting of objects of national art. On the basis of his personal collection and in accordance to his plan, Nicholas II created the famous Russian Museum. This topic will be presented by Vladimir Gusev, director of the State Russian Museum.

The event will also be attended by students of SPbGIK, SPbGUP, students of the Russian school under the State Russian Museum. Traditionally, library’s website will provide live broadcast of the video lecture.
