
Why Catherine II is called the Great — the answer lies in the Presidential Library
Dedicated to the epoch of the reign of Catherine the Great event entitled “Public video lecturing — to school” will be held in the Presidential Library on October 24, 2017, at 11 am MSK. The event is organized for the “Artek” International Children’s Center’s School students of 7—8 grades. St. Petersburg school students will also participate in public video lecturing.
The head of the School of Historical Sciences of the Liberal Arts Faculty and Dean of the Historical Faculty of the Higher School of Economics Professor Alexander Kamensky, PhD in Historical Sciences, will appear wilt a lecture on Catherine’s the Great epoch. During the lesson the students will review all the stages of molding of personality of Catherine II, learn more about her ambiance. The lecturer will elaborate on the importance of the reformatory pursuits of the Empress. At the end of the video lecturing, participants will be offered to answer the question, why Catherine was called Great, themselves.
Reflecting the centuries-old history of Russian statehood is one of the key priorities of the Presidential Library. In library stock, which today numbers more than 550,000 entries, there is a large number of materials focused on the destinies of statesmen. Some unique evidences, dedicated to an outstanding personality of the Empress, her foreign and domestic policy, as well as her private life, her family and her companions, are amassed in an electronic collection devoted to Catherine II (1729-1796), which is part of the large-scale collection The House of Romanov. Zemsky Sobor of 1613.
The Presidential Library and the “Artek” International Children’s Center cooperate for the purpose of forming a solid information cloud for sharing reliable information in the national history, theory and practice of Russian statehood and the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation. The cooperation agreement between two institutions was signed on June 13, 2017. The key direction of work to the extent of the signed document is the joint projects in the scope of information, outreach and awareness raising, education and culture, as well as ethical and patriotic upbringing of youth.
