The State Museum of the Political History of Russia (St. Petersburg) has mounted an exhibition «A visit is a must!», focused on the 95th anniversary of the 1st All-Russian Agricultural, Handicraft and Industrial exhibition of 1923, which initiated the exhibition business in the Soviet Union. It was the first state exhibition organized to promote the national project of the country’s revival after the Civil War – first and foremost, the revival and development of agriculture. What is more, the country’s new leadership was eager to show the world that the Soviet Russia was a promising state with a great future. Efforts to overcome the economic collapse required large-scale propaganda, popularization of the best expertise, industrial achievements, abroad as well. The work on the exhibition of 1923 attracted world renowned scientists: Nikolay Vavilov, Alexander Chayanov, and the best architects and sculptors: Alexey Schusev, Vera Mukhina, Fyodor Shekhtel and others.
