World History and Culture: Exhibition “History through Byzantine and Ancient Russian Seals from Private Collections” currently underway in Moscow

Andrey Rublyov Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art (Moscow) is currently running the exhibition “History through Byzantine and Ancient Russian Seals from Private Collections”. The exhibition will be open until December 10, 2018.
Seals have always been used to authenticate documents. The exhibition showcases lead seals, known as ‘molivdovuls’, which were popular in the Byzantine Empire. They come from different parts of the Byzantine Empire – Greece, Asia Minor, the Balkans, and the Apennine Peninsula. A small section of the exhibition spotlights the seals of Ancient Rus’.
