April 16, 2019 marked 85 years since the establishment of the title Hero of the Soviet Union. This title appeared spontaneously, but the time itself required a special award to be presented for heroic deeds for the great country. First and foremost, for the record achievements of the Soviet aviation and development of the Far North.
“The Rescue of the Chelyuskintsy” exhibition timed to this date is staged in the Museum of Heroes in Moscow.
Rescue of the Chelyuskintsy was a real triumph of the Soviet aviation. The pilots who participated in the rescue of the expedition became world-famous at once. They justly became the first recipients of Hero of the Soviet Union title – “the highest distinction awarded for heroic deed”.
