Society and Culture: Exhibition “City Fairy Show. Russian poster of the late XIX - early XX century" opened in the Russian State Library

On February 28, 2020, “City Fairy Show. Russian poster of the late XIX - early XX century" exhibition of the advertising poster was opened in the Russian State Library. The exposition includes more than 200 posters, as well as packaging, price lists featuring the diversity of commercial advertising until 1917.

Materials from the Russian State Library's collection present the dream world of the late XIX - early XX century, compared with the ideas of the modern age.

The exhibition is divided into four main sections. The first section - "City Lights"  is devoted to the posters of amusement and performances, including the first Russian movie posters. The second section - “Colored Shop Signs, Gold Letters” showcases the diversity of Russian trade advertising. The third section presents social and patriotic posters. The fourth section features the masterpieces of the poster by famous artists.
