International Events: "Eternal Egypt: Far and Close" exhibition opened in Saint-Petersburg as part of the Cross Year of Humanitarian Cooperation of Russia and Egypt
On March 11, 2020, the "Eternal Egypt: Far and Close" exhibition was opened in the New Building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg).
The exhibition was arranged along with the Cultural Bureau of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow as part of the Cross Year of Humanitarian Cooperation of Russia and Egypt. It is the first event of the "Egyptian Culture Days in Saint-Petersburg" series, which will take place from March 23 to 28, 2020, in the New Building of the National Library of Russia.
The exhibition features printed publications from the collections of the National Library of Russia. It showcases genuine geographical maps of 1665 and 1753, as well as a unique collection of postcards with views of Egypt from the deltiology collection of Igor Churakov. It is made up of 238 albums and four boxes of postcards. They entered the library in 1942, in the year of the tragic death of the collection's owner in besieged Leningrad. The exhibition also presents books and items from the Cultural Bureau of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow.
The exhibition will run until April 10.
