Internet and Libraries: Virtual exhibition "Novgorod on the Pages of Foreign Publications of the XIX from the Rare Book Collection of the Novgorod Regional Universal Scientific Library" presented

A new virtual exhibition arranged by the Department of Foreign Language Literature of the Novgorod Regional Universal Scientific Library is entitled "Novgorod on the Pages of Foreign Publications of the XIX from the Rare Book Collection of the Novgorod Regional Universal Scientific Library". It showcases publications in French, English, and German, which feature information about Veliky Novgorod and Novgorod Land. The authors of these books traveled and worked in Russia or studied Russian history. Among the publications presented at the virtual exhibition are "Histoire de Russie" by Pierre Levesque, "Mein Sommer im Jahr 1805" by Johann Gottfried Seume, "La Russie en 1839" by Astolphe de Custine, "Memoirs" of Anne-Louise Germaine de Staël-Holstein and others.

The collection of the Department of Foreign Language Literature contains about 2000 items (books and periodicals). These are foreign publications of the XVIII, XIX and early XX centuries in English, German, French and Italian. This collection includes the library’s oldest book - the "Architecture Hydraulique" of 1750, a lifetime edition of the French brigadier general and inventor Bernard Forest de Bélidor. It also ​​includes publications on various fields of knowledge: history, philosophy, law, natural sciences, medicine, foreign literature. It features the works of such famous writers like Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Maurice Maeterlinck, lifetime editions of Charles Dickens, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The collection ​​contains unique editions from the libraries of noble estates of Novgorod Province: books with bookplates of Alexei Alekseevich and Sofya Aleksandrovna Kovanko, Ivan Petrovich Daragan and other representatives of the Novgorod and Saint-Petersburg nobility.
