Memory of Russia: The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation launched a section about the Victory Parade in 1945 on its website
The new multimedia section "Triumph of the Winning People" about the parade on Red Square on June 24, 1945, is available on the website of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. The section contains documents (including previously unpublished) that provide comprehensive information about the parade.
It features copies of archival documents, including schemes of columns, orders of the Soviet Army leaders, and photographs of the parade taken by operators of the Radio Fixation and Radio Broadcasting Committee, the All-Union Radio Committee, the Central Documentary Film Studio and the "Krasnaya Zvezda" newspaper.
The section provides the story of casting for the Victory Parade. The participants became the soldiers who showed heroism on the battlefields. Also, the decisive factors were growth and age. The participant had to be higher 176 cm and younger 30.
The parade began at 10 a.m. with the marching of 800 Suvorov drummers arrived from all over the country. The parade was attended by over 30.000 troops, almost 2.000 combat vehicles and aviation equipment. It lasted more than 2 hours.
The section users may read the ceremonial speech of Marshal of the USSR Georgy Zhukov, in which he said about the decisive role of the Red Army in the defeat of Nazism. Plan of salute, which began after the parade at 11 p.m., is also interesting. The unique performance involved 100 searchlights, 6.000 flare guns and much more.
