10 August 2020

The Alexander Pushkin State Museum-Reserve "Mikhaylovskoye" (Pskov Region) announced the theme of the future Pushkin Readings in Mikhaylovskoye. Traditionally, the conference is marking the next anniversary of Pushkin's arrival at the Pskov family estate in August 1824.

The general theme of the museum readings is represented by words from Pushkin's poem "Oleg's Shield": "...In praise of military Rus'...". The general direction for the forthcoming scientific discussion is determined by several ideas, relevant for the modern society, and a series of anniversaries, that includes the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The organizers of the readings also remind about the 200th anniversary of Pushkin's visit to Crimea, as well as the 110th anniversary of the front-line poet Aleksandr Tvardovsky, celebrated this year.

The conference theme highlights many ideas, such as: "The Archetype and Ideal of the Hero (Russian Chronicles, Epics and Legends, the Poetry of the Golden Age)"; "The Feat of the Russian Army and the Image of the Defender of the Motherland in Russian and Soviet Literature: Ideal, Traditions and Memory"; "Russian Writers and Artists - Defenders of the Motherland"; "Ancestors and Descendants of Alexander Pushkin - Participants in Hostilities"; "A Name in the History of Region, in the History of Russia" and much more.

The readings are supposed to be held at Mikhailovskoye on August 21 and 22. More information is available on the museum's official website.
