26 August 2020

In 2025, the 20th UN Internet Governance Forum will be held in Russia. The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation received formal confirmation of the host country status from UN representatives.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is one of the central international events for discussing the development of the "global network" and digital technologies. It brings together representatives of states, business, public organizations and experts. Traditionally, the forum participants pay special attention to cybersecurity, personal data protection and ensuring unlimited access to the Internet. Another forum topic is new technologies: artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data.

The first UN Internet Governance Forum took place in 2006. The event is held annually in a new country. In previous years the forum was hosted, for example, by Switzerland, France, India, Brazil.
