World Culture: Museum and Nature Reserve "Tsaritsyno" presented the exhibition "Splendid Features of Ancient Gods"

On August 22, 2020, the Museum and Nature Reserve "Tsaritsyno" and Moscow collector Olga Zateeva presented an exhibition of works by Western European masters of the XVI-XIX centuries. The exposition showcases 300 works by masters of various schools and art styles (baroque, rococo, classicism and modern). It features 17 paintings, 70 engravings, 158 items of applied art, as well as pieces of furniture and sculpture. More than half of the works are shown to the general public for the first time.

The exhibition "Splendid Features of Ancient Gods" brought together works of masters from Italy, France, Germany and Great Britain. The diversity of styles and geography of presented items allow comparing the works of different artists that developed the same themes, as well as forming a personal idea of significant artistic phenomena of art history.

The main goal of the exhibition is to represent famous ancient myths and their interpretation in art history. The exposition is housed in 10 halls of the Bread House in Tsaritsyno and organized according to the thematic principle. The separate rooms are devoted to the gods of the Greek and Roman pantheons - Apollo, Diana (Artemis), Neptune, Zeus (Jupiter), Bacchus (Dionysus), Aphrodite (Venus), Flora, Kronos (Saturn). It promotes the complete comprehending of the images of the ancient heroes. It also helps to remind the famous ancient legends that formed the basis of many works presented at the exhibition - the stories of Apollo and Daphne, Bacchus and Ariadne, Venus and Adonis, as well as the myths about the abduction of Proserpine and Europa, the court of King Midas and Paris.

The exhibition pays significant attention to the collection of paintings, which includes pictures by Italian artists Bernardino Cesari, Pier Francesco Cittadini, Gaspare Diziani, Flemish master Victor Honoré Janssens.

The exhibition "Splendid Features of Ancient Gods" of the Museum and Nature Reserve "Tsaritsyno" provides the private collection that has been forming over twenty years. Until recently, it was available only for professional art critics.
