 
  World Culture: State Museum of Oriental Art launched the exhibition "In Search for Magic. Art of Indian Ceramics of XIX-XX centuries"
      On September 16, 2020, the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow) opened the exhibition "In Search for Magic. Art of Indian Ceramics of XIX-XX centuries".
The exhibition presents unique examples of Indian ceramics of the XIX-XX centuries - about 50 items from the collection of the State Museum of Oriental Art. Most of the exhibits are showcased for the first time.
Indian coloured ceramics is a rare phenomenon with interesting art and technical features. Despite the small volume, the collection of the State Museum of Oriental Art is unique. It has no analogues in Russia.
Blue-and-white pottery is not typical for India. Traditional dishes are of green ceramics. Coloured ceramics was brought by Muslim craftsmen, who first began to adorn mosques and tombs with coloured glazed tiles. Then they launched production of refined, unusual for India dishes. Over time, several art centres appeared, which product is easily recognizable. Delhi red clay ceramics imitate expensive imported Chinese porcelain, Jaipur school imitates Wedgwood, Bombay School found its way in the creative revision of local traditions for the European market.
