Information Technologies and Society: "Light" - new mobile reading application

At the beginning of the new academic year, the National Electronic Library, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, launched a new mobile reading application "Light" - a new opportunity for students to read easily with pleasure. The application is available at the App Store and Google Play.

The application is intended for a young audience, but it will be also interesting for older readers and all who are fond of culture. The launch of the application is supported by the largest educational online platform Uchi.ru.

"Light" provides access to more than 1000 world and Russian literary works, as well as hundreds of films and performances free of charge for all Russian citizens. After downloading the application, the user gets an opportunity to read the stories by Gorky, Turgenev, plays by Shakespeare, Chekhov, novels by Dickens and Twain, poems by Blok and Tsvetaeva and much more. After reading the book, it is possible to watch a film adaptation or a performance based on the relevant work at the same application. The list of authors and works will be constantly improved. Specialists of the Russian State Library, as well as outside experts in literature, media and art, are responsible for the selection of literature for the application.

Besides, each work is supplied with interesting facts about the author, his life and oeuvre. It promotes the comprehensive perception of the idea, deep immersion in the historical context and new discoveries.

A distinctive feature of the application is a motivational program that encourages users to read, watch and learn more every day. One of the useful options is setting goals and monitoring achievements. The application provides control of the user's reading achievements and submits game tests.
