Internet and Book Culture: Book Fair in Thessaloniki (Greece) launched online
The Book Fair in Thessaloniki (Greece), as well as many major international fairs this year, takes place online on November 19-29, 2020.
The event is a part of the Cross Russian-Greek Year, which began last year. This year, it was extended due to the pandemic in both countries. The virtual Russian stand provides meetings with contemporary Russian writers.
It will also present the most influential Russian literary awards: "Big Book", "Yasnaya Polyana", "Lyceum", as well as the international prize "Read Russia" for the best translation from Russian. Kuban State University has long-term creative and educational affiliations with Greek universities and annually receives students from Greece. The institution will promote new textbooks of the Russian and Greek languages, theoretical works. The Russian Integrated Humanitarian Publishing House arranged a "live" program in Zoom, which presents new books and authors writing in the national languages of Russia. Heads of the Publishing House recently won the Presidential Prize for their important work on publishing the literature of the peoples of Russia.
The book fair also focuses on children's literature. The "Children's Corner" provides a virtual exhibition of Russian illustrators, as well as an exhibition of artists awarded with the prize of the open contest "Image of the Book". Users will have an opportunity to learn about new children's books and explore a presentation of Russian children's books in foreign languages issued with the support of the Institute of Translation. Graphic artist Anastasia Arkhipova will talk about the Russian school of book illustration and give a master class for beginning artists.
