History of Russia: "Faces of the First World War" exhibition launched in Yaroslavl
The Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve launched the exhibition "Faces of the First World War". The exposition marks the 102nd anniversary of the end of the First World War and is devoted to the memory of Russian soldiers and officers. It is available in the foyer of the historical department of the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve.
On November 11, 1918, the German Empire and the Triple Entente military-political bloc concluded a peace treaty, which put an end to the First World War. But it brought no relief for Russia, which did not share the fruits of victory with the allies in the Triple Entente. The territory of the former Russian Empire was convulsed with the Сivil war. Russian soldiers and officers paid the highest price for participation in the First World War. The fatal casualties of the Russian army were more than 2 million people.
The "Faces of the First World War" exhibition features photographs from the museum collection. This documentary evidence of the past allows us to learn about the forgotten war, look into the faces of participants and perceive their misfortunes.
Photographs from the collection of Pavel Nikolaevich Velikanov reveal the everyday life of the 30th Siberian Rifle Regiment. Each picture of the exhibition tells its history and has its own destiny.
The private belongings of war participants are presented in the glass cases. There are documents, military awards, uniforms, soldiers' belongings such as a flask and a tinpot, that provide the atmosphere of the First World War.
