Society and Culture: Exhibition devoted to Osip Mandelstam launched in Vladivostok
The main building of the Museum of the History of the Far East (Vladivostok) hosts the exhibition "Osip Mandelstam. The Ocean Boy". The museum exposition illustrates the life of the poet, his literary way, as well as the poetic manner of his poems and various periods in the author's oeuvre.
The exhibition has been preparing for almost two years. It consists of three components: exhibits, realisation and concept. Its idea is to reflect the poet's life by the transforming Word. The heroes of the project are both Mandelstam and his poetry.
The only thing that correlates Osip Mandelstam with Vladivostok is his death here in December 1938. The city does not keep artefacts that reveal the poet's life, his fate and his work. The exhibition "Osip Mandelstam. The Ocean Boy" is a result of the joint work of four institutions. The project of the Museum of the History of the Far East involved the Vladimir Dal State Museum of the History of Russian Literature, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Anna Akhmatova Museum in the Fountain House. The exposition includes collections and lists of Mandelstam's works, copies of autographs, as well as portraits, sketches, and city landscapes.
The exhibition also features documents from the Russian State Library, the A. M. Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian State Archives of Literature and Art, the Federal Security Service Archive, the Russian State Military Archive and private collections. The work on the project about Osip Mandelstam initiated the conclusion of partnership agreements between the Museum of the History of the Far East and the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature. It is planned to develop exhibition activity by the museums' teams and engage new partners.
The exhibition "Osip Mandelstam. The Ocean Boy" will run in the main building of the museum until March 10, 2021.
