25 February 2021

Marking the 100th anniversary of the Chuvash National Museum, the Chuvash Embroidery Museum (Cheboksary) opened the "Heritage of the Ancient People" exhibition, which presents the most attractive and unusual exhibits from the museum collections. The exposition is part of the series "Museum Collections", which highlights the rich culture of the Chuvash people. It presents rare ethnographic items collected by museum specialists and cultural figures.

In the beginning, members of the Society for the Study of the Local Territory contributed much to museum development. Involving the local intelligentsia, they performed the research work in almost all settlements with the Chuvash population.

Expeditions played a significant role in the formation of museum collections. So, in 1926-1928, in Chuvashia, there was the Middle Volga expedition of the State Academy of History and Material Culture (Leningrad), which also employed the specialists of the Central Chuvash Museum (now the Chuvash National Museum).

In 1949–1952, the museum took part in a comprehensive ethnographic expedition led by N. I. Vorobyov, Professor of the Kazan branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. During the Soviet period, museum specialists made numerous trips to the republican districts to collect materials for new museum expositions.

The exhibition also provides information about the most prominent personalities who devoted their lives to the museum.
