Museums of Russia: Exhibition "Masterpieces of Museum Collections. Graphic Works from the Collections of the Sergiev Posad State Historical and Art Museum-Reserve" opened in Moscow
The exhibition "Masterpieces of Museum Collections. Graphic Works from the Collections of the Sergiev Posad State Historical and Art Museum-Reserve" was opened in the Museum and Exhibition Centre of the Sergei Andriyaka School of Watercolours (Moscow).
The exposition presents 64 graphic works of the XVIII-XX centuries. This collection of Russian and Western European engravings will attract the visitors' attention.
The exhibition's highlights painted engravings by the famous Italian engraver and architect Francesco Camporesi (1747–1831). The artist lived in Russia for over 40 years and created a series of unique prints with Moscow views. The exposition presents some of the works from this series. The collections of the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve includes the works of Giovanni Piranesi (1720-1778), another son of the Apennine Peninsula. Now it showcases his engravings with views of Rome. The master's prints showing the architectural heritage of the Eternal City are real masterpieces.
Konstantin Korovin's gouache sketch of the scenery for the opera "Sadko" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is an example of the flowering of Russian graphic art at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries. Also, the exposition showcases a selection of engravings by the artist Alexei Shmarinov from the series "Zadonshchina". Unique works illustrating the monument of Russian national literature of the late XIV - early XV centuries are made in the style of Old Russian icon painting.
The exhibition will run until April 25.
