Memory of Russia: Exhibition "1941. Marking the 80th Anniversary of the Beginning of the Great Patriotic War" launched in Volgograd
Ilya Mashkov Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts presents the exhibition "1941. Marking the 80th Anniversary of the Beginning of the Great Patriotic War". It will run until July 5, 2021.
June 22 is a Day of Remembrance and Sorrow. That day divided the history of the country into "before" and "after". Many paintings, graphic works and sculptures are devoted to this tragic and memorable date.
Beginning from the first poster "The Motherland Calls", the works by Soviet artists were highly emotional. They compared the fate and history of the country with the fate and history of the family. Blood ties and the sorrow of parting are the leitmotifs of the exhibition. Farewell scenes, the theme of soldiers' mothers and waiting are most widespread in art. Another storyline highlights historical events of 1941 and heroic resistance. The exposition features a painting and a famous graphic series about the battle for Moscow and the beginning of the Leningrad Siege. There are works by Vladimir Starov, Evgeny Matsievsky, Tatyana Kovrigina and Yuri Neprintsev.
The exhibition includes twenty-one works of thirteen authors, including Volgograd artists Viktor Fetisov, Robert Kharitonov, Alexander Denisov, revealing the events and phenomena of 1941 and its symbolic significance in Russian history and multinational culture of Russia.
