
Society and Culture: Exhibition devoted to Ivan Aivazovsky to open in Sevastopol
On July 5, 2021, Sevastopol will launch the exhibition "Aivazovsky in Sevastopol", devoted to the oeuvre by the world-famous artist.
The exhibition is the joint work of three museums - the Museum of the Heroic Defence and Liberation of Sevastopol, the Ivan Aivazovsky Feodosia Art Gallery and the Russian State Art Gallery.
The exposition "Aivazovsky in Sevastopol" will become the key cultural event of the season for the entire peninsula. Residents and guests of Sevastopol will have a unique opportunity to see the most famous works by the artist.
The exhibition aims to present the activities and paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky, devoted to the Crimean War and the defence of Sevastopol. It also strives to reveal his strong ties with the native land, the Black Sea Fleet and its heroes.
The exhibition is showcased in three halls. The first hall illustrates the key events in Ivan Aivazovsky's life and his work on the Crimean land before and after the war. The second hall reveals the artist's contacts with the Russian Navy and naval commanders, heroes of the Crimean War. The third room spotlights Ivan Aivazovsky's participation in the defence of Sevastopol and his paintings devoted to the Crimean War.
The exhibition program comprises several educational and art events for children and youth.
The master's works very rarely leave their native Feodosia. It happened only during evacuations at the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars and participation in projects of the State Russian Museum and the State Tretyakov Gallery that marked the 200th anniversary of the artist.
The exhibition will run until the end of October 2021.
