Marking Navy Day: Exhibition "Naval Parades in Saint-Petersburg: Pages of History" presented in Saint-Petersburg
The exhibition "Naval Parades in Saint-Petersburg: Pages of History" was opened at the Nevsky Curtain of the Peter and Paul Fortress.
The tradition of naval parades in Saint-Petersburg dates back to Peter the Great's time. The first parade took place on the Neva on September 9, 1714. It was devoted to the victory of the Russian fleet at Gangut (July 27, 1714).
Over time, naval parades that originally marked military victories and commemorated them slowly turned into a demonstration of the increasing power of the Navy, its readiness to defend the Fatherland from the enemy from without.
The exhibition, arranged in cooperation with the Central Naval Museum, features more than 150 original museum items. Several multimedia blocks present paintings, graphic works, sculptures, posters, documents, models of warships, naval uniforms, photographs, postcards and video materials. They introduce the visitor to the history of one of the most significant solemn ceremonies of naval life connected with the city.
The exhibition will run until November 2, 2021.
