Marking the Year of Science and Technology: Interactive map of Moscow streets named after outstanding scientists launched

13 July 2021

The mos.ru portal launched an interactive map of streets named after outstanding scientists. The Science in the City project started in 2021, which is announced as the Year of Science and Technology in Russia.

The capital has more than 180 streets, avenues, lanes and squares with the names of scientists whose research and discoveries have advanced world science and changed people's lives. They are talented physicists and geographers, historians and mathematicians, chemists and biologists, travellers and inventors. Some of them are world-famous figures such as Dmitri Mendeleev and Andrei Sakharov. Names of other scientists are not familiar to everyone. The new project allows filling in the gaps and introduces the achievements of those whose names are on the address plates.

The Science in the City interactive map shows 184 streets that received names of scientists and inventors. It is possible to see the biography of the scientist, his portrait and information about the street by clicking at a certain point on the map.
