History of Russia: Exposition "Outstanding Soviet Armament Designers Boris Shavyrin and Sergei Nepobedimy" to open in St. Petersburg

On October 6, 2021, the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps (St. Petersburg) will open a new exposition "Outstanding Soviet Armament Designers Boris Shavyrin and Sergei Nepobedimy".

Boris Shavyrin became one of the first Soviet creators of jet technology. He developed such anti-tank missile systems as Schmel', Malutka, Strela. All of them were created in the legendary Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering in Kolomna, headed by Boris Shavyrin from the moment of its foundation on April 11, 1942, until he died in 1965.

After Boris Shavyrin, Sergei Nepobedimy became the head and general designer of the Kolomna Design Bureau. He is the author of over three hundred scientific papers, designs, inventions and publications. Under his leadership, 28 missile systems of various purposes were put into serial production and service. He launched the creation of high-precision mobile tactical and operational-tactical missile systems in Russia. Under his leadership, the Design Bureau produced designs for Tochka, Tochka-U missile systems.

The Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps showcases many items produced at the Kolomna Design Bureau. Recently, the Strela-S portable anti-aircraft missile system and the Ataka anti-tank missile entered the museum collection. They were provided by the Kolomna Design Bureau. Also, the museum received models of the operational and tactical missile systems Oka, Iskander-M, Tochka, Khrisantema-S, Gibka-S. All of them became exhibits of the new exposition complex. It also features exhibits of especial value – personal belongings of Boris Shavyrin and Sergei Nepobedimy.
