Memorable dates in Russia: The exhibition "The Psychologist of the Pen" and the Explorer of the Human Soul" to mark the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky presented at the National Library of Russia

The exhibition "The Psychologist of the Pen and the Explorer of the Human Soul" was opened in the New Building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition showcases about 200 editions of the great writer, among which are the most famous works included in the "Great Pentateuch" - "Crime and Punishment", "Idiot", "Demons", "Teenager", "The Brothers Karamazov", and little-known ones.

According to UNESCO, Dostoevsky is today one of the most cited and translated Russian authors in the world. Among the exhibits are his works and works about him in Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Urdu, Japanese, Bengali and other languages.

In addition to a great number of publications of Dostoevsky's novels, texts previously unknown to the foreign reader and researcher are being translated. Dostoevsky has become a phenomenon of contemporary world culture. The questions raised by him are still relevant today.

His works are used in cinematography and on theatrical stages in Russia and other countries. The events of his novels unfold not only on the dramatic stage, but also on the opera and ballet stage. Various types of visual arts are involved. Representatives of different countries and cultures are looking for their Dostoevsky. The relevance and paradoxicality of the questions posed contains that depth of Dostoevsky's knowledge of man and the world, which attracts the modern reader and viewer.

The exhibition includes a photo project "Petersburg of Raskolnikov and Svidrigailov". They are 30 works of St. Petersburg photographer Yuri Panteleev. In his works, the author embodies his vision of classical literary images.

The exhibition has been prepared by the Department of National Literatures and the Department of Asian and African Literatures.

The exposition will run until December 11.
