Memorable dates in Russia: Exhibition dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the formation of the Military Topographic Depot and the 200th anniversary of the formation of the Corps of Military Topographers presented in St. Petersburg

The exhibition site of the Department of Cartography in the Main Building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) features materials from the collections of the department, created by military topographers and cartographers. The maps are examples of a high level of scientific and methodological substantiation of all astronomical and geodetic works, the accuracy of surveys, the completeness of the content and the thoroughness of execution, provided by Russian military specialists. Todayt, valuable information on various aspects of historical geography can be gleaned from these cartographic documents and they can also be successfully used as toponymic sources.

The exposition will run until April 10.
