Memorable Dates in Russia: “Peter I. The Start of the Amber Journey” exhibition dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great opened in Kaliningrad
Maritime Exhibition Centre of the Museum of the World Ocean (Kaliningrad) hosts the Peter I. The Start of the Amber Journey exhibition prepared by the Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site. It takes place within the project of the Assembly of the Peter Museums of Russia with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
The exhibition is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great. Its goal is to show the complex personality of the Russian tsar, an art connoisseur and rarities’ collector, and to uncover the Peter I’s role in the fates of the cities in the European part of Russia. Exhibition tells about one of the most interesting episodes in the Peter the Great era and all of Russian history – the creation of the Amber Room made in Prussia and gifted to Peter I by Frederick William I, the King of Prussia.
The exhibition displays fragments of the decorations of the Amber Room and other amber items recreated based on the historical models. For the first time ever, visitors will have an opportunity to see the unique virtual version of the Amber Room created by the Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site.
The exhibition will run until June 19, 2022. The project will then move to Voronezh, Vyborg and Pskov.
