
World History: The exhibition “Belarusian Governorates of the Russian Empire” presented in St. Petersburg
The historical and documentary exhibition Belarusian Governorates of the Russian Empire has been opened at the Russian State Historical Archive (St. Petersburg). The State Archive of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Archive of Ancient Documents, the Russian State Film and Photo Archive participated in the exhibition, representing Russia.
The exhibition features around 200 documents, including three authentic decrees on the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1772, 1793, and 1795).
Special attention is paid to the institutes of governing and the work of high-ranking officials. Visitors will have an opportunity to explore documents on public education, periodicals, literature, theatre, film, ancient monuments of Belarus’ territories. The documents also cover the Patriotic War of 1812 and World War I. Alongside the Russian archives, the representatives of Republic of Belarus greatly contributed to the organization of the exhibition. They provided 25 documents, 11 of which are displayed for the first time.
