Marking the 350th anniversary of Peter the Great: The Peter’s Museums Assembly launched over 30 exhibitions
This summer, the Peter’s Museums Assembly opened 31 exhibitions dedicated to the 350th anniversary since the birth of Peter I, including mobile exhibitions Peter the Great of the State Historical Museum and Peter’s Fortresses of the Smolensk Fortress State Museum in Voronezh.
The assembly has been created on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Russia with the support of the Russian Museums Union. It unites 115 museums of the country – from the Hermitage, the Moscow Kremlin Museums, Peterhof to municipal museums in small Peter’s towns.
The exhibition of the State Historical Museum has opened in the building of the Koltsov Drama Theatre in Voronezh. The exposition tells about the collection of monuments of the Peter’s era, displays cartographic and visual materials from the museum’s collections. The tablet exhibition Peter’s Fortresses of the Smolensk Fortress Museum summarizes the fortification heritage of the Peter’s era and combines data on over 25 historical fortresses, located in different regions of Russia and Belarus.
Also near Voronezh, the Palace Complex of Princess of Oldenburg hosts exhibitions Model Gardens of Peter the Great and Not just for fun, but also for business. History of the Assemblies of Peter the Great. The first exhibition is dedicated to the favourite gardens of the emperor, including the ones in Europe. The second exhibition tells about the idea of Peter’s assemblies, the entourage of the Russian emperor, and the significance of new cultural trends in the enlightened society of the young empire. It features memorabilia of Peter the Great and thematic items from Peterhof’s collections.
