Marking the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia: The exhibition “The Russian Triangle. Story of Balalaika” presented in Moscow
The Russian National Music Museum (Moscow) presents the exhibition The Russian Triangle. Story of Balalaika. The exhibition is open at the Chaliapin Museum-Estate. It is the museum’s contribution to the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.
The exhibition tells about the most popular Russian musical instrument, evolutions and traditions associated with it. A section of the exhibition features a real workshop of balalaika master.
Visitors have an opportunity to see Russian folk instruments made by famous masters – F. Paserbsky, S. Nalimov, their followers I. Galinis and S. Bolshoy, as well as the instruments by contemporary masters. Special attention is paid to the work of Russian musician V. V. Andreyev, founder and director of the first Russian orchestra of Russian folk instruments in history, as well as his companions, who made it possible for balalaika to really become a musical symbol of Russia.
«Balalaika is considered a truly national instrument. The sound of balalaika reflects the Russian soul – sometimes wild and indefatigable, sometimes sad and wistful… the sound of balalaika is mentioned multiple times in the works of famous Russian writers. Therefore, we have decided that it’s important to organize such exhibition during the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, in order to remember the history of this unique instrument and other Russian folk instruments, to learn more about this extraordinary craft that still continues to develop to this day», Director General of the Russian National Music Museum Mikhail Bryzgalov said.
The detailed program and schedule of the events, timed to coincide with the exhibition, are available on the website.
The exhibition will run until November 6, 2022.
