Internet and History of Moscow: Retro photographs of the city life published on the website of the Moscow Main Archive

The Moscow Main Archive has prepared electronic collections of retro photographs of everyday life of the residents over the past hundred years.

Some of them, taken before 1917, are considered to be rare – these are images on glass plates with a photosensitive layer applied to them. Just over a hundred of these “photocards”, featuring views of the capital and its residents, has been preserved.

Online albums also contain the usual paper pictures of Stalin’s times, the Era of Stagnation and Perestroika. All photographs, including the ones on glass plates, have been digitized and are presented in the public domain.
