Internet and History: Online project “Penza – City of Labour Valour” presented
The Penza Local History Museum with the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation has presented the online project Penza – City of Labour Valour, dedicated to the history of the city during the Great Patriotic War.
“There are four main sections available on the website. All materials featured in them are connected by cross-links, so all the information posted on the resource is perceived as a single whole. The website will be regularly updated with new materials”, – the representatives of the museum said.
Visitors to the resource have an opportunity to explore four main sections: The Forgotten Alphabet of War, Popular Science Lectures, Memories of Veterans, Map of Labour Penza.
– The Forgotten Alphabet of War. This section, designed according to the alphabetical principal, features a unique dictionary of military everyday life of Penza. Several articles have been created for each letter of the alphabet, each containing a text part, a photo gallery, a selection of documents and museum exhibits, a Q&A section. The articles are complemented by popular science lectures by historians, with stories about the life of Penza during the war.
– Popular Science Lectures. Each lecture refers to the corresponding article of the Alphabet of War, and vice versa – each article contains a link to a lecture.
– Memories of Veterans. On the website, in the format of longreads, there are featured memories of veterans telling about military everyday life, the work of defense enterprises, etc. Each of the memories is represented by a video story (interview), its text transcript and a photo gallery.
– Map of Labour Penza. The map of the city shows defense enterprises and wartime infrastructure facilities. The map is interactive: clicking on an object opens a window with references, which link to dictionary articles, lectures and memories.
