
History of Russia: The exhibition of unique archive documents in Novgorod the Great
The exhibition of unique archive documents opened today in Novgorod’s Kremlin. Its opening is timed for the 1150th anniversary of Novgorod the Great.
The exhibition that is held in the main building of Novgorod state cultural preserve presents over 100 documents of the Archive Fund of Russian Federation. Among them there are unique documents from Novgorod Regional State Archive, Russian State Archive of ancient acts, Russian State Historical Archive and Russian State Archive of documentary photograph and cinema.
The displays of the exhibition dated XIII-XX centuries characterize the main stages of Novgorod’s history.
Among them – agreements of Novgorod’s townspeople with Lithuanian and Russian princes, the second chronicle of Novgorod, ancient plans of Novgorod’s monasteries, projects of the monument of ‘Thousandth of Russia’, as well as the documents of great Russians whose life was closely connected with the land of Novgorod – international passport of Feodor Dostoevsky, the extract of the register of birth about Sergei Rakhmaninov’s birth and christening, etc.
The documents demonstration will accompanied with sequences of the Soviet newsreel. The organizers believe that it will help the visitors to plunge into the atmosphere of Novgorod the Great of almost a hundred years ago.
