65-year Great Victory anniversary: Contest on best idea of the museum-memorial, dedicated to the Leningrad siege announced in St. - Petersburg
On November, 20 the Committee for Culture of St. – Petersburg announced the contest on the best idea of the museum-memorial, dedicated to the siege of Leningrad.
The best idea will serve the basis for the architectural project. The contest’s results will be announced before the Victory Day.
The State Memorial Leningrad Defence and Blockade Museum located in Solyanoy Lane is already 20 years old. Due to its considerably small area it has to keep in its funds a lot of unique exhibits. The Director of the Museum Anatoly Shishkin is convinced that the new branch is able not just to solve this problem but also to create interactive expositions.
There is also the idea to create the magnificent panorama called “900-Day Siege”, dedicated to the heroic feat of the people of Leningrad which could become the part of the museum-information complex. Such a complex could be constructed near the Piskaryovskoye Memorial cemetery – the mass graves of soldiers and civilians, who perished during the Siege of Leningrad.
The Committee for Culture of St. – Petersburg suggested the residents of St. – Petersburg to express their own ideas about the construction of the new museum.
