Libraries of Russia: “Library-2010” will help the provincial libraries to survive
“Library - 2010” project presentation took place on December, 3 in the Central House of Artists in Moscow. It was organized in the framework of the intellectual literature fair.
The project is aimed at reinforcement of the libraries’ work, preservation of their status as the social institution, which provides the accessibility of information services and information products, and also the popularization of scientific knowledge and cultural values among the population.
The Chairman of the Federation Council Sergei Mironov remarked in his video address that the appearance of such a project was an important event not just for those who published and popularized fiction and educational literature but for those who was fond of reading as well. The Federation Council press service informs that this year the exhibition is representing over 200 publishing houses from 20 countries of the world.
The Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Mikhail Nikolaev is convinced that nowadays the library, cultural centers and country club appear as the principal cultural centers which organize the leisure time of people, especially in the backwoods. He stresses that, “due to these centers of culture people can get a free access to knowledge”.
The project’s presentation brought together the representatives of the Russian Book Union, the members of the Council on state cultural policy by the Chairman of the Federation Council, writers, and leaders of public organizations.
“Library-2010” project has been initiated by the major Russian publishing house EKSMO and is being implemented by the support of the Federation Council, Ministry of Press and Mass Media, and Russian Book Union.
