Libraries of Russia: Full-text database “Buryat book’s history” launched

On February, 18 the National Library of the Buryat Republic will open a presentation of a CD “Buryat Book’s History”, which has come out within the framework of a joint project undertaken by the National Library of the Buryat Republic (http://www.nbrb.ru/) and the UNESCO Bureau in Moscow (http://www.unesco.ru) with the financial support of the Ford Foundation. The event will bring together scientists of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS, teachers of the Buryat State University, as well as representatives of Ulan-Ude libraries. 

The full-text database will cover the history of Buryat publishing from 19th up to the mid. 20th cc. The project has been mounted with joint efforts of the National Library of the Buryat Republic together with the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.

The CD contains Buryat chronicles, Datsan’s xylographs, missionaries’ books, works by Buryat writers of 20-30’s from the funds of the National Library of the Buryat Republic, among them: “Chronicles of Khori-Buryats”, “Chronicles of Barguzin Buryats”, “Chronicles of Selenginsky Buryats”, Buddhism religious literature, missionaries’ books, first editions of Buryat writers.  Books’ digitization was carried out at the National Library of the Buryat Republic.

Within the framework of the presentation CDs will be donated to the funds of libraries, educational and scientific institutions of the Republic.
