Libraries abroad: Public Library of Malaysia attracts patrons

18 February 2010

The Perlis Public Library (Malaysia) aims to register 600 library users as its members every year as part of an effort to inculcate reading habit among the people, its director Norma Mohd Darus said.

She said that so far, 85,000 users or about one-third of the state population were registered as its members.

Besides the main library at Jalan Penjara, the state library also has branches in different parts of the country, as well as in 36 rural libraries statewide.

The Library’s Director said several programmes would be held to attract more people to the library, including a book festival to be held between March 19 and 24 at the main library.
