Internet resources: Russian Wikipedia reaches 500,000 articles

Russian Wikipedia has reached 500,000 articles. An article № 500,000 became the one dedicated to an album “Ys” of the harpist Joanna Newsom.

Most articles, over 100,000, represented in the Russian Wikipedia, are about personalities. About 80,000 articles contain information on populated areas, and 14,000 articles turn the spotlight on movies. Russian Wikipedia contains over a half of articles of the “Great Soviet Encyclopedia" and the “Great Russian Encyclopedia”.

Russian Wikipedia was created in 2002. In the late 2004 it reached 10,000 articles, 100,000 became available in August 2006. The last jubilee number of 400,000 articles was managed on June, 16 2009. Thus, mere 8 months were enough to write other 100,000 articles.

Wikipedia in general totals 15 million articles in 270 different languages. Apart from the Russian language section Wikipedia represents other sections in the languages of different peoples of Russia, and besides Wikipedia in the Old Slavonic Language.
