22 May 2010

“Expanding horizons” – is the name of the new project, which kicked off in one of the regions of Ural Federal District. Tyumen oblast authorities consider it as one of the stages for creation of a fully-fledged e-government. The project’s mission is to enable everyone to receive government services via Internet.

“Long ago did we stress the necessity to improve computer literacy of the region’s population. It becomes especially urgent when government and municipal services are being converted into electronic form. To make e-government more efficient, officials should provide services online, whereas people of the region should be able to make use of them. Only in this case e-government is going to work more efficiently”, - Governor of Tyumen oblast, Vladimir Yakushev, stressed.

This week the social program “Expanding horizons” was launched in four pilot platforms. Among its first participants are Yalutorovsk, Zavodoukovsky City district, Nizhnetavdinsky and Isetsky districts. Free training courses and seminars will be held at regional centers. What is more different educational models will be used. Those looking for basic computer skills will visit training courses four times a week.
