Internet resources: Archives of France’s departments to go digital
La Manche Department Archive (France) launched its website, which provides access to digital registers. Archives of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin Departments supported innovative ideas as well. The first one, according to GeneaBlog, on July 2 released all the civil status acts on the Internet, whereas the Bas-Rhin Department is going to mount its website in the middle of this month. Thus, the whole Alsace province is moving towards the digital genealogy.
Now, in order to find information about ancestors, who lived for instance in la Manche, one only needs to visit the website http://archives.manche.fr, which provides access to parish registers and civil status acts. What is more, this database includes cadastres of Napoleonic times, departmental archives’ inventories, as well as different plans, photographs, 44,000 postcards, bills and audio recordings. Modern search system will enable users to retrieve necessary information.
